Wednesday, 9th May 2012 Scout Hall, Kitchener St, Trafalgar Commencing at 7.30pm This month is a little different; our guest speaker will be Rolf Willig, formally a DSE biodiversity officer based in Traralgon. Rolf has been conducting ongoing owl surveys in the Strzelecki Ranges for the past five years, these included many of the locations that we frequently bushwalk in. The aim of his study is to monitor the populations and distributions of five of the six species known to be recorded in the region. Continued pressures on these majestic nocturnal birds of prey from habitat loss and fire frequency have drastically impacted on their numbers. Rolf’s presentation will begin at 7.30 so that while we continue after with our general meeting he can set up his equipment at Uralla Reserve. (Just five minutes away). Then we will join him there for the playback of the various calls and a spotlight walk. (Please bring a hand or head torch, warm clothes, beanie and gloves etc. This part of the evening is weather dependant and should take about one hour.) June meeting will feature Steve and Paula Horton from the South Gippsland Walking and Adventure Club, speaking about Rogaining. And July is the A G M. and will see the return of the “Cook Up”. Start thinking about those recipes for your camp stoves, so you can impress your fellow club members with your cooking skills.
